Do Google Business Profile Posts Help, and How Often Should I Post?

Posts help customers decide to choose you: they show you're active and give people a reason to call or book. Google doesn't publish a required frequency. A steady, sustainable rhythm beats bursts, and posts older than six months are archived anyway.

What Google says posts are for

Google describes posts as a way to share announcements, offers, updates and events with customers on Search and Maps, and says that when customers find your latest updates, "it helps them decide to visit your business."

The three post types

How often to post

Google doesn't set a frequency. Two practical facts shape the answer:

A realistic starting point for most local businesses is one or two genuine posts a month, about real jobs, seasonal services or offers, rather than a burst followed by silence.

What gets posts rejected

Do posts help ranking?

Google doesn't list posts as a ranking factor. Treat them as a way to convert people who already found you, and as fresh, specific information about what you do.

Rather not keep up with this yourself? That is what our Google Business Profile management covers.

Can I See How Many Views My Google Posts Get?

Yes — Google Business Profile now shows a view count on every post you publish, covering roughly the last 18 months across Search and Maps combined. It's built directly into the dashboard, not a separate report you have to request.

What the new reporting actually tracks

The view count sits on every post card and covers a rolling 18-month window, across every post type — regular updates, offers, and events. Views are aggregated from customers discovering the post on both Google Search and Google Maps into a single combined number, rather than split out by platform.

Where to find it

  1. Sign in. Log into your Google Business Profile.
  2. Open Posts. Select Posts from the dashboard menu.
  3. Check the card. The view count is shown directly on each post's card — no separate report to run.

What this doesn't do yet

Post view counts aren't currently available through the Business Profile API, so there's no way to pull this into a spreadsheet, a client dashboard, or an automated report — checking the dashboard directly is the only way to see it right now. Google hasn't published a timeline for changing that, so treat this as a manual check for the time being, not something to build automation around yet.

FAQ

Do posts show on the map pack?

Customers see them on your Business Profile on Search and Maps, in the Updates or Overview tabs on mobile and "From the owner" on desktop.

Can I post the same thing on multiple profiles?

Yes. Google lets you share a post across multiple Business Profiles when you publish it.

Does the view count cover Google Maps too, or just Search?

Both, combined into one number. The reporting doesn't currently break out how many views came from Search versus Maps separately.

Can I see view counts for posts I published before this feature launched?

Yes. The reporting covers a rolling 18-month window, so it includes posts published well before the feature rolled out, not just new ones going forward.

Can I pull this data through an API or automation tool?

Not yet. Post view counts are not currently exposed in the Business Profile API, so tracking them means checking the dashboard directly rather than pulling them into a spreadsheet or reporting tool.
