How Do Hair Salons Get Recommended by AI?
By giving AI assistants specific, consistent facts to repeat: the services you offer, how to book, real photos of your work and reviews that mention specific stylists and services. A vague profile gets passed over for one that answers the question.
List every service, specifically
"Hair salon" doesn't answer "who does balayage near me." Use the services editor in your Business Profile to add each service you offer, with descriptions and prices where you're comfortable. Google's guidelines also allow service businesses like barbers and spas to add a menu of services.
Make booking one tap
Google supports an appointment link on your profile, and some booking providers integrate with Google directly so customers can book without leaving. If you use a booking platform, check whether it's a supported provider and connect it.
Photos of the work
Google recommends business-specific photos: exterior, interior, at work and team shots. For a salon, before-and-after photos of real clients (with permission) are the most useful. Google says photos shouldn't be significantly altered or use filters, so skip heavy editing.
Reviews that name things
A review that says "Maria fixed my color after another salon wrecked it" tells AI far more than "great place." Ask happy clients to mention the service and stylist. Don't offer discounts for reviews or only ask clients you expect to be happy; Google's policies and the FTC both treat that as a problem.
Individual stylists
Google allows public-facing practitioners to have their own profiles in some cases, but salon rules depend on how the business is set up. The safest default is one strong salon profile, with stylists featured by name on your website and in posts.
Check what AI says now
Ask ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode "best salon for [service] in [your city]." Note which salons get named and what details are cited. Those details are what you need to match or beat.
FAQ
Should each stylist have a Google profile?
Usually not to start. Google's practitioner rules are specific; build one strong salon profile and feature stylists on your website.
Can I ask for reviews at checkout?
Yes, ask every client the same way. Don't offer anything in exchange or filter who you ask.
