A duplicate profile — a second listing for the same business and address — does real damage: it splits reviews, confuses which version Google treats as the real one, and can undercut the profile you're actually managing. Finding and resolving it is worth prioritizing over almost any other fix.

How duplicates usually happen

Duplicates most often come from a business being listed automatically by a data aggregator before the owner ever claimed a profile, a past rebrand or address move that left the old listing live instead of updated, or a second profile created by mistake — sometimes by an agency or employee who didn't realize one already existed.

How to find one

Search your exact business name along with your city, and separately search your address alone. A duplicate doesn't always use the identical business name — a slightly different spelling, an old name, or a missing suite number can all mean it doesn't turn up in an exact-name search.

Getting it resolved

1. If you can claim the duplicate, do so and then report it for merging with your primary, verified listing rather than trying to manage both.
2. If you can't claim it, report it directly as a duplicate through Google's reporting flow, referencing your own verified profile as the correct listing.
3. If reviews exist on the duplicate, understand that a merge doesn't always transfer them cleanly — this is a real cost of letting a duplicate exist for a long time before addressing it.
4. Recheck after resolution — duplicate reports don't always resolve on the first attempt, and confirming it's actually gone is worth doing rather than assuming it worked.
