Answers / Getting Found on Google
How Do I Get More Customers for My Local Business?
Most people who need a local business search for one. The question is whether they find you or the business down the street.
Start where customers already look
- Google Maps and your Business Profile. For "near me" and "in [city]" searches, the map results get most of the clicks and calls.
- Reviews. People compare stars and read recent reviews before they call. Ask every happy customer.
- Your website. It should answer three things fast: what you do, where you do it, and how to reach you.
- AI assistants. More people ask ChatGPT or Gemini "who is the best [service] near me." Those answers usually name one or two businesses.
Fix leaks before buying more traffic
Before spending on ads, check that people who find you can act: a clear phone number, correct hours, a working contact form and fast replies. Paying for clicks that land on a wrong number wastes the money.
Measure what matters
Track calls, form fills and direction requests from your Business Profile insights. If those numbers do not move, more marketing activity is not helping.
FAQ
Should I start with ads or with Google Maps?
If your profile and website are weak, fix them first. Ads send people to the same profile and site, so weak pages make ads cost more.
How many reviews do I need?
There is no magic number. What matters is how you compare to the businesses you compete with in your area, and whether reviews keep coming in.
Does social media bring local customers?
It can support trust, but for people ready to hire, search and maps usually drive more calls.
