How Do I Add a Manager to My Google Business Profile?
A manager can do most of the day-to-day work on a Google Business Profile — updating information, responding to reviews, posting updates — without holding ownership. It's the right role for an employee, a marketing contractor, or an agency you're working with on an ongoing basis.
What a manager can and can't do
A manager can generally edit most profile fields, respond to reviews, create posts, and view performance data. What a manager cannot do is add or remove other users, transfer ownership, or delete the listing — those actions stay with the owner. This is a deliberate limit, not a bug, and it's why manager access is the right choice for most day-to-day help.
How to add one
From the profile's user-management settings, the owner (or another manager, depending on how permissions are configured) can invite a new user and assign them manager-level access by their email address. The invited person needs to accept before the access becomes active — adding someone doesn't grant access until they confirm.
When to use manager access vs. full ownership
- An employee handling day-to-day updates — manager access is almost always the right level, not ownership.
- An agency or contractor managing the profile on your behalf — manager access lets them do the work without giving up ultimate control of the listing.
- A business partner who should have real decision-making authority, including the ability to manage other users — this is closer to a case for co-ownership, not manager access.
Removing access when it's no longer needed
When an employee leaves or a contractor relationship ends, removing their manager access is worth doing promptly rather than leaving old access active indefinitely — unused access doesn't cause an active problem on its own, but it's an unnecessary risk with no upside to leaving it in place.
FAQ
What can a manager do that an owner can't, or vice versa?
A manager can edit most profile information, respond to reviews, and post updates, but cannot add or remove other users, transfer ownership, or delete the listing. Those actions are reserved for the owner.
Does someone need to accept an invitation to become a manager?
Yes. Adding someone as a manager sends an invitation, and their access isn't active until they accept it — simply adding their email address isn't enough on its own.
Should an agency managing my profile be a manager or an owner?
Manager access is generally the right level for an agency or contractor — it lets them do the necessary work without giving up ultimate control of the profile, which stays with you as the owner.
