Can I Put Keywords in My Google Business Profile Name?
No. Google requires your profile name to match your real-world business name, as it appears on your signage, website and stationery. Adding services or cities to the name breaks the guidelines and can get your profile suspended.
What Google's guidelines say
Google's guidelines say your name should reflect your business's real-world name, "as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery, and as known to customers." Including unnecessary information in the name isn't permitted and could result in suspension.
What can't go in the name
- Service or product information: Google's own example rejects "Midas Auto Service Experts." Only "Midas" is acceptable.
- Location information: "Equinox near SOHO" is not allowed.
- Marketing taglines, phone numbers, URLs and hours ("Open 24 hours").
- Legal terms like LLC or Inc., unless your real-world branding consistently shows them and you can prove it.
"But my competitor does it"
Some profiles get away with keyword-stuffed names for a while. That's a risk they're carrying, not a strategy. You can report a profile that breaks the rules through Google's Business Redressal Complaint form.
Where keywords belong instead
- Your categories (as few as accurately describe the business).
- Your services list and business description.
- Your website pages, posts and review replies, written naturally.
What if my legal name includes a keyword?
If "Vancouver Roofing Co." is genuinely your name, on your sign, invoices and website, you can use it. The test is your real-world branding, not what you'd like to rank for.

FAQ
Will adding my city to the name help me rank?
It breaks Google's name guidelines, and a suspension costs far more than any short-term bump.
Can I change my name to include a keyword legally?
If you actually rebrand, with new signage and paperwork, Google treats it as your real name. Don't do it only for search.
